Best of 2012

(read, but not necessarily published in 2012)

10:
Grave Mercy
I didn't write a review on this one, but I did rate it 5 stars on goodreads.  Oddly enough, I can't really remember much about it, and you'd think if I really loved it, I'd remember more.  I think at the time it was just an entertaining read, that I quite liked.

9:
Paris in Love
This is a great book to read when you only have little bits of time here and there. The one drawback I can think of was that there were times I wanted her to continue on with a certain part in the story, instead of the short paragraph we got. I was very sad when it came to an end, but it has inspired me to pay attention to the little details in life and enjoy them more.

8:
Zita the Spacegirl
This was super cute! The artwork was fun, and I loved the story.

7:
The Shadow Rising
Best of the series so far, for sure. Even though I still felt some minor annoyances, this was pretty darn good. It has taken 4 books, but I am sucked in and hooked now.  I'm not looking forward to when the series starts to go downhill, because I'm sure it will.

6:
The Hiding Place
You know, I think I may have read this book when I was a lot younger, but I'm not sure.  My mom has been trying to get me to read it for a long time, so I finally picked it up this past year.  It's a fantastic story.  I'm glad I read it.

5:
The Girl of Fire and Thorns
This book reminds me a bit of Tamora Pierce's writing. There is a strong female lead and plenty of action. Elisa was a hard character to like at first, because she seemed so down on herself for certain things with no real plans to change anything about it. But she definitely grew stronger as the story went on, and became a character that young girls could look up to, which I love to see in YA fiction.

4:
The Well of Ascension
I read Mistborn quite awhile ago, and I don't know exactly why I didn't continue on with the series right away.  I wish I had, so that the first book would have been fresher.  Or I wish I'd known there was a summary of book one in the back of this one before I got to the end.  In any case, I absolutely love this series.  Brandon Sanderson is one of the best writers in fantasy, without question.

3:
Days of Blood and Starlight
I was blown away. I can't tell you how many times I cried. Or how many times I said aloud, to myself, "this is killing me". This book made me feel so much, and that is a sign of a really good book. I do not want to have to wait for the next book, but I think I will do myself a favor, and re-read at least this one when the next comes out. Laini Taylor is something special, for sure.

2:
One Thousand Gifts
This book is going high up on my favorites list. It really was a life-changing book for me, and one that I will read again and again. I would highly recommend this book. Ann Voskamp has a style of writing that is almost like a flow of thought, and it's honestly not for everyone. The message in this book is for everyone, though. It's not really anything new: being thankful for what you have, and expressing that thankfulness. But Ann Voskamp puts a new perspective on it all. It is real, raw, and fresh, and if you let it, it could change your life too.

1:

The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making
I already raved about this one on my review here .  This book represents everything this blog is about.  That reading fairy tales can still be magical, even when you're a grown up.

  1. You only gave Grave Mercy 4 stars not 5 on goodreads :)

    1. I know. I changed my grading system on Goodreads so that only my favorites were five stars. So books I had previously rated five, I moved down to four.
